A regenerative nonfiction journal for those who want to change the story.

Embers Journal is a home for stories about people finding ways to reconnect to ourselves, each other, and the more-than-human world.

We’re currently reading for our inaugural issue (Winter 2026) through October 31.

Visit the submissions guidelines page for more info.

Embers Journal is published seasonally (winter, spring, summer, and fall issues).

It is currently online only, but we plan to offer a print publication for paid subscribers in the future.

The stories we publish are all narrative nonfiction, but they span genres: ecology, psychology, spirituality, science, agriculture, technology, embodiment, business, healing . . . really anything, because reconnection is possible (and necessary!) on every level of life.

The storytellers we showcase come from diverse fields: farmers who have learned something profound from the soil; therapists who have watched their clients heal in nature; economists dismantling the myth of endless growth; tech veterans who have seen behind the curtain and can’t unsee it; businesspeople who want to return the humanity and dignity to the way we work; conservationists, anthropologists, educators, and journalists who believe that the way we’re living isn’t working and want to write stories that show we can create something better.
